Early Life and Foundations in Martial Arts
Born on March 21, 1955, in Spain, Antonio Garcia moved to Belgium at a very young age when his family relocated to work in the mines. From an early age (1969 – 1970), he practiced Judo and Modern JuJutsu, developing a passion for martial arts that would shape his entire career.

Discovery and Mastery of Hakko Ryu
In 1974, Antonio discovered Hakko Ryu Jujutsu in Haybes-sur-Meuse, France, under the guidance of Jacques Quero. This encounter marked a pivotal turn in his martial arts journey, leading him to travel to Japan in 1978. There, he trained intensively under Shodai Soke Okuyama, the founder of Hakko Ryu. His dedication during these several months of rigorous training allowed him to become the first in Belgium to be awarded a Hakko Ryu grade and subsequently being named the head instructor for Belgium. Additionally, while in Japan he also immersed himself in Kendo and bonsai.

Rising Through the Ranks
By 1978, Antonio achieved the rank of Shihan, solidifying his reputation within the Hakko Ryu community. The following year, he hosted Shodai Soke Okuyama in Belgium, facilitating a 10-day visit to all Belgian dojos—an event that catalyzed his role in spreading Hakko Ryu worldwide. In 1981, he made history again as the first European to receive the rank of Menkyo Kaiden Shihan Sandai Kichu, the highest rank in Hakko Ryu.

Expansion and Recognition
Antonio’s influence continued to grow, and in April 1988, while traveling with NiDai Soke Okuyama around Europe, he received the title “Shunzan Toshi Yama,” meaning “Stable Mountain.” That same year, he founded the “All European Ju Jutsu Kai” and established the European Honbu (head school), significantly expanding Hakko Ryu’s footprint across Europe.

A Pivotal Moment: The Breach and New Beginnings
In 1992, Antonio hosted the Hakko Ryu Shihan TaiKai in Belgium, one of the largest Hakko Ryu events worldwide. However, in 1993, he made his final visit to the Hakko Ryu Honbu, marking a significant turning point. By 1997, he co-founded Hakko Denshin Ryu, a new chapter in his martial arts career, driven by his vision and leadership.

Legacy of Hakko Denshin Ryu
Today, Hakko Denshin Ryu boasts over 1500 members worldwide, with a presence in countries such as France, Italy, Russia, Belarus, Brazil, Spain, Poland and Romania. Soke Antonio Garcia’s journey from a young martial arts enthusiast to a revered master and founder reflects his profound commitment to the art and his enduring influence on the global martial arts community.
